Happy Tails Walking Rules
- We never wear headphones or chat on the phone in the middle of walking your dog!
- To stay safe from slipping out of harnesses or collars, dogs will wear their normal gear and also be secured with one of our back-up attachments as a secondary fail safe. (*these may not always be visible in photos). Please see our Policies section for details
- We are proficient in using a variety of leads and walk gear and respect your preferences. One product we will not use is a retractable leash: As a safety standard, dogs are always kept within 4 feet of the walker. Retractable leashes have a bulky design that is hard to hold onto, as well as a locking mechanism that often dangerously disengages.
- Walking Etiquette and Safety are important to us, and we strive to be good neighbors by:
-Keeping your dog right at our sides or directly behind us, within about 4 feet
-Avoiding face to face greetings with unfamiliar dogs or people: For many dogs this is a very high ____pressure situation
-Always cleaning up and properly disposing of waste, never allowing dogs to disrespectfully pee on ____private property or store entryways
-Staying polite and courteous on the street
- Extreme temperatures: For pets' safety, walks under these conditions will be kept to a safe minimum where your dog has a chance to relieve themselves and get fresh air but isn't at risk for heat stroke, paw damage, or prolonged cold exposure.
- We keep an eye out for common hazards like broken glass or bicycles riding the wrong way on sidewalks, but also uncommon hazards that extensive experience has taught us to be aware of like foxtail weeds, pesticide-sprayed lawns, hidden "street treats"...
